This research, the foundation for a brush-focused seminar, delves into the science behind these essential tools. It explores brush components, emphasizing tool selection, and analyzes natural hair and synthetic fibers, revealing their impact on brush performance.
The research also investigates brush tufting and brush making, uncovering the physical phenomena at play in various painting techniques. By understanding brush-paint interactions, artists and conservators can make informed decisions to achieve their artistic or restoration goals.
Finally, the research emphasizes proper brush care and maintenance, ensuring brush longevity and optimal performance. This scientific exploration empowers artists and conservators to unlock the full potential of brushes.
The project PINCID involves researching the pigments used in artistic painting by creating real hand-painted samples for each pigment. A card for each pigment has been developed, including values such as Color Index Number, Date, Chemical Class, Chemical Formula, Refractive Index, Chromatic Description, Lightfastness, Permanence, and Drying Rate. Each card presents real paint samples in three dimensions: full tone, tinting strength, and opacity. This comprehensive documentation enables the selection of paints for both artistic work and restoration operations to be carried out with greater precision and professionalism. The project is a continuous work in progress.
PINCID (Pigment Index for color Identification) is a revolutionary physical tool that transforms the way artists and researchers interact with pigments. This innovative customizable binder presents a unique system for organizing and exploring a wide range of pigments, providing an unparalleled learning and discovery experience.
